Reviews:
There's something captivating about B.G.'s voice-a lazy, sultry tenor as spicy as a choice wing from Popeyes. His rhymes flow like sweet Southern molasses, peppered with cuss words and shouts out to his Chopper City homies; B.G. lays out the law of this "dirty, dirty world" without ruffling a single feather. The 23-year-old rapper-who cut his debut,
True Story, when he was just 11-may have flown the Cash Money coop, but he's come into his own as a bounce superstar.
Cash Money Millionaires Slim and Baby built their empire on B.G.'s back, but as last year's Life After Cash Money proved, this rapper still has plenty of tricks in his bag. The Heart of tha Streetz draws from a similar well as Life: B.G. mourns the old days on "Same Ol' S***," praises his peeps on "Chopper City," and detours into hardcore crunk for "Where Da At," produced by Atlanta guru Mr. Collipark, AKA DJ Smurf. Only complaint: at 17 tracks, B.G. would do better to conserve his cruising energy by cutting a few superfluous songs and filler skits.
