More Info:

In your absence formed in Kansas city in 2003. Since then, the band has been making moody, dark music that doesn't neatly fit any genre boxes, preferring instead to fuse elements of alternative and indie rock with soft acoustic undercurrents. The band is actively playing in the Kansas city region, from Denver to St\. Louis. ^#^their music can be heard on Kansas city's 96.5 KRBZ 'the buzz', as well. ___ LATEST PRESS: 'This debut from In Your Absence is one of the more eclectic mixes I've heard in some time, almost to the point of being difficult to describe. There are some heavy doses of Tones on Tail mixed wtih Nina Hagen and The Cranes. Team them up with Rozz Williams, and you come pretty close. The tracks 'Pavement Like Glass', with it's heavy tom-tom work, and the closing track, 'Starfade', with it's aching moments of shallow hope, are the shining moments of this well-produced and potent album. This album is available now and certainly worth picking up.' --Poseidon from Gothic Beauty magazine, Issue 19, Winter 05/06 * * * * * * * * * * 'In Your Absence are a band out of Kansas City, and they are Jovid - Vocals and Guitar (Yes, she's female), Steve - Guitars, Dan - Drums, Justin - Bass. In Your Absence have described their music as 'moody, dark music that doesn't neatly fit any genre boxes'. This is an apt description, though if one were to put the band in genre boxes it'd probably be the big box that is rock, since they aren't really like anyone else. Now to be honest, I really don't like female singers, mostly because I'm a guy and I can't sing along. Jovid, on the other hand, has a very rich, raw voice that can easily be sung along with. I catch myself singing to many songs on this CD, such as the eerie atmosphere of the title track. Jovid blends perfectly with the muscular bassline and the cascading, moody guitars. A very strong song indeed. What is also cool about this CD is In Your Absence's ability to take what they have and make something special with it. Sure, all they are is just a typical 4 piece, but they're much more than that. Listen to 'Wounded', the guitar line may be fairly simple, but the drums in back of it are quite dynamic, and then Jovid comes in with a double vocal refrain, which definitely catches the ear and pulls it in. Other highlights include 'Failed You' (beautiful, just beautiful), 'Pavement Like Glass' (experimenting eh?), and 'Winter Chill' (I fucking love that guitar part man). Pictoral guitar work, brawny bass playing, and gumptious drums give vocalist Jovid the perfect ground for her almost diary-like lyrics lines to walk upon. It's just a debut, and hey, it may not be changing music as we know it, but In Your Absence have an uncanny ability to align the listener with their vivid sound. Rating: 4/5' -- g0d from themusicappraisal.com * * * * * * * * 'Moody, stylish in your absence is Kansas' twister of a band poised to blow the rest of the world away with it's powerful riffs, dark, brooding lyricism and the eclectic talents of it's four members: Jovid's laudanum-laced vocals recall Garbage's Shirley Manson, providing the chill contrast to the aural layerings of Steve Migdol's soul-searing guitar work, Justin Brown's immensely inventive and caustic bassline and drummer Dan Herdman's primal barrage...The startlingly raw intimacy of their songs hint at a precocious and auspicious debut. This is a band to watch---and listen out for.' --Georgina Gozum Asian Public Radio's New Music Mondays.
